The Texas Fur Trails has a new editor and will have a new look for the summer. Texas Trappers enjoy reading and seeing what their fellow trappers are doing around the state, so send in your articles, stories, recipes and pictures.

District 3 Director Don Hightower recently met with staff from Gus Engeling Wildlife Management Area to provide a workshop on effective snaring techniques. Workshops, such as this, are mutually beneficial in educating the public about the importance of trapping and TTFHA appreciates the opportunity.

Youth Trapping Workshop

June 3, 2017 - Devine High School Ag Shop

Devine, TX

9 am - Noon

Workshop will cover the very basics of trapping fur-bearers and predators such as: choosing set locations, making the sets, baits and lures, and what to do after the catch.

While this workshop will mainly be formatted toward our youth, anyone wishing to learn the basics of trapping is welcome to attend. The workshop is free, but an RSVP is required. Contact R. Wheelus at or call 361-318-0692 and leave message


Earle Blakney, District Two Director announces a District 2 meeting


Date: Saturday, May 20, 2017
Location: 527 Pecan Drive Irving, Texas 75061
Time: 10:00am until 3:00 pm

We will have several demos including Alexandria Hahn doing hog trapping and snaring, Earle Blakney doing fur handling, Jim Brooks doing coyote trapping and bobcat trapping and David Simpson doing beaver trapping.

We will have a lunch, I will provide the meat and will do a pot luck for the sides and dessert.

A short membership meeting will be held, there are many changes going on in the TTFHA so we will discuss them.

We will also hold a raffle. Anyone wanting to donate an item for the raffle please contact: Earle Blakney.

If you have trapping related items to sell or trade feel free to bring them.

I will be happy for any trapper in any District to attend this event. Please RSVP with Earle at 817-559-3281 or so I can get a head count.
